Student Stories – Muncie

"My mother was a Registered Nurse for more than 20 years in my home country of Liberia, West Africa. She inspired my life’s goal: To open a modernized hospital in the war-torn, impoverished rural region she selflessly and humbly served. I am on that path, right now, at Ivy Tech Muncie, where I’m working on my associate degree in nursing. The advice and mentorship that I’ve received here has impacted me most. The nursing professors even share their life experiences and struggles to help motivate me. Through them, I’ve learned that hard work will help you achieve your goals."

"I came to Ivy Tech in 2014, right after a personal tragedy. To be honest, I was not in the mindset to go back to school, but I wanted to honor the promise I’d made to my grandfather. I finished two semesters with a 4.0 GPA, made the Dean’s List, and planned to transfer to a 4-year university when financial aid issues arose. Once again, Ivy Tech was the answer I needed. Last spring, I was awarded the Hurley & Freddine Goodall Scholarship to pay my tuition and books, I had the honor of speaking at the Scholarship Brunch, and I graduated with my General Studies degree. No one ever said this was going to be easy, but I’ve learned to NEVER give up, even when you want to."

"My goal is to be a professional dancer and someday open my own dance studio. My dance teacher in my hometown of Dayton, Ohio is my inspiration. Currently, I’m on my way to finishing my general studies degree at Ivy Tech Community College Muncie. I have found so many mentors and friends who have provided encouragement and made a positive impact on my life and future. People like Jackie Washington, Kristin Holcomb, and many others have kept me motivated and taught me that hard work and persistence will help you achieve your goals"
