Student Stories – Lafayette

Andy Saldana

"I was working as a Network Technician, but I wanted to go further, to advance. That’s when I enrolled at Ivy Tech Lafayette. Currently, I’m working on two degrees, I have a job and a family. It gets overwhelming sometimes, but the faculty and the other students at Ivy Tech have encouraged and pushed me to keep working toward my goals. I’m already seeing the benefit of my education because I’ve been able to apply what I’ve learned at Ivy Tech to my current position. It’s great to have new skills that help me to be of greater value to my company."

"I was out of high school for 13 years before deciding to enter college and pursue my dental assisting Associate Degree in Applied Science. Although I am a non-traditional student, I felt very welcomed at the Ivy Tech-Lafayette campus and was pleased to be able to enter into campus life as president of the Dental Assisting Society. I am very appreciative of the scholarship support available at our campus and truly excited about the career opportunities I now have with my Ivy Tech education!"

"Ivy Tech has unlocked my true potential. I have been given a new focus in terms of a career path, and I feel confident in transferring into my four-year university. The ASAP program is definitely challenging, but just as important, it has eased my transition from high school to college. My experience at Ivy Tech has given me stability and comfort in my life and has prepared me for the next four years of my college education. I am truly blessed that Ivy Tech Community College has been a part of my life."

Wendy Ndichu

"Being born in Kenya and moving to the United States at the age of 12, I have a different perspective than most Ivy Tech students. My parents have been inspirational role models, teaching me the value of hard work and education in pursuing my goals. Ivy Tech has been a wonderful place for me to launch my education; I am in the Ivy Honors program and the transfer program for Biomedical Engineering. In my spare time, I love to give back to my community and am involved in a lot of organizations. At Ivy Tech, I have been involved in the Black Student Union, as a Student Ambassador, and this year I am part of the Student Government, serving as President."

"Within one semester, I found a course of study which combined academic rigor with my area of desired employment. I finally have the direction and career path that I had been searching for but, previously, unable to attain. Thanks to my program chair and campus leadership, I now have clearly defined future educational goals and I’m on the right path to achieve them."
