Cohesion and Celebration - $700 ASAP/Green2Gold are both extremely rigorous programs. Creating cohesion and celebrating accomplishments are both important factors which lead to retention and successful completions. This year the group would like to go snow tubing at Perfect NorthSlopes. Most students have not done this, and many have not been outside of the state. Our budget would be $39 ($29 if everyone goes) per tubing ticket, $20 per student for food and $200 for van rental. We will take the Ivy Tech van but will need a2nd vehicle to get there.

Ivy Tech Franklin's Coffee & Community Corner 2.0 - $350 Franklin’s Coffee & Community Corner 2.0 is about taking our Franklin Commons to the next level! Since the induction of the Coffee and Community Corner this past spring, we’ve seen a dramatic increase in student involvement on campus. During the day we see students gathered in between class hours, playing games, studying, and of course drinking coffee! Franklin's Uncomfortable Learning Club, holds weekly events for students to participate in, like Voter Registration events, Banned Books Bingo, and Sustainability Sessions. My club students use the white boards from last year’s grant to promote connectivity. My English 111 class also uses these boards for group work to present class lessons. It’s my hope that they will continue those relationships beyond the classroom, and to connect with future classmates! Building on this momentum, I’m seeking to “level up” this experience. To continue putting the community back in Ivy Tech Community College, I’m requesting funds for a bulletin board, which would allow us to promote community events or volunteer opportunities in the Franklin area, for student or employee spotlights and for showcasing student work! We also wish to continue with our mission of sustainability: Go Green with Ivy Tech! So once more I’m applying for funds for compostable coffee supplies for one full year. With these funds Franklin’s Coffee &Community Corner will continue to be a place for students and teachers to connect over a cup of coffee!

Supporting Multi-Language Learners - $100 The Ivy Tech Columbus Service area has worked to create a culture of belonging and success for our students. As the area we serve becomes increasingly diverse, the number of multi-language learners enrolled on our campus and at our sites continues to increase. Our campus currently offers an ESL Accommodation that allows for the use of an instructor-approved translating dictionary as well as 50% extended time on quizzes and exams. While many students who utilize this accommodation are able to purchase the dictionary, we have found that others could benefit from being able to borrow the dictionary to use while they are enrolled and/or until they feel more confident about their language skills. I am requesting funding to purchase 10 Translating Dictionaries to keep on hand to be shared with our students as needed. Because French and Spanish are the most common languages spoken by students using the ESL Accommodation, we will purchase 5 Spanish and 5 French dictionaries.

It would help us to update our print lab with helping us to replace one of our aging printers that no longer works and is no longer supported. Self-Service Headshot & Selfie Station Proposal - $5,002.50 In order to support our students and staff on their professional journeys, I would like to purchase a self-service headshot and selfie station. This station will provide an opportunity for our students and staff to have a professional headshot taken to be used on Linkedin profiles, email signatures, and more. Additionally, the station can be used for events like Orientation, Week of Welcome, Career Fairs, and Campus Tours. Individuals utilizing the station will be encouraged to share their images online to show school spirit and use hashtags. The Lafayette campus recently purchased a self-service station, which received stellar reviews and is used frequently. The Station is portable and can moved to all of our campus sites and buildings and can be used for any number of events. I believe this resource will be an asset to the Columbus Service Area will show our students that they are valued, and we want to see them succeed professionally. In addition to the professional aspect, the Station can be used to increase belonging among students because it can be a place that students can take selfies with friends, other club members, and faculty and staff. I do realize that the amount is rather large. Student Life is willing to supplement any costs above what is awarded from the Circle of Ivy grant.

Food for Thought - $1,000 Few will argue the importance of healthy self care practices and healthy eating. But when schedules get tight and stress gets high, good habits can be the first thing to fall by the wayside.
As students prepare for the completion of classes, they are juggling an assortment of responsibilities for family, work and school. Finals week brings with it the culmination of these activities combined with the stress of exams. A perfect time for healthy habits to find their way to the bottom of the importance list. To help students with this, we will provide two things. First, a visual reminder of simple, healthy ways to care for our bodies and reduce stress. Flyers will be displayed for activities such as taking a walk, giving a hug, and expressing gratitude.
And secondly, we will assemble “grab and go” bags that contain a balanced meal. Each bag will include a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (uncrustable), a bag of mini carrots, an apple or orange, a granola bar and an individual shelf-stable milk. And, while not always a healthy choice…ranch dip for the carrots, because we’ve been conditioned that these go together!
Bags will be made available Monday-Thursday at a variety of times, to allow all students the opportunity to make use of the program. To prevent waste, a box will be placed nearby for unwanted items.
Sometimes we all need to be reminded of healthy choices that can go a long way in reducing stress. Let’s support students during finals week!

Close the Gap! - $670 Awarded funds will be used to purchase 10 headphones and 5 PicoBricks kits. These items will be for use in the IT Pathways program at Columbus New Tech High School (CSA). Headphones are needed because many resources and materials we use in the curriculum include videos they need to listen to. Many students beginning this pathway (high school sophomores) do not yet have their own earbuds or headsets. Having these on hand will assist students in successfully completing classes and not missing any crucial content via videos. ThePicoBricks kits are a beginner level kit students will use sophomore year to aid in their understanding of electronics, coding, and IoT basics. This bridges the gap in learning necessary skills to successfully complete full Raspberry Pi projects their junior and senior years. Some past Raspberry Pi projects Juniors and Seniors have completed in the past include Pi's with sensors to monitor and record environmental factors such as temperature and humidity in beehives and mushroom growing projects the science teacher runs at CSA. During those projects, I noticed the learning gap that we need to bridge. The PicoBricks kits will solve that problem.

University Library of Columbus Comic-Con - $1,500 The University Library of Columbus Comic-Con has been a yearly event since its inception in 2017. When we began our Comic-Con we had a budget of zero dollars and only five vendors. This past year we had close to fifty vendors and were able to raise over 2,000 dollars though the generous contributions of grants. We have used that money to pay for panelists, belly dancers, and FX makeup artists. We also have used that money to buy promotional materials that we give away for free to our attendees. We use this yearly event to promote literacy, Ivy Tech and its programs, and to host local artists and artisans who otherwise would not have a place to showcase their work. Our event is free and open to the public, and attendance has grown every year we have hosted out event. It is our hope that this event becomes a yearly tradition for those in our community.

Propeller Maker Space Membership - $1,800 The Propeller is an incredible maker space on the Columbus AirPark campus containing welding bays, a 3D printer lab, a metal shop, a woodworking shop, an arts and crafts space, an electronics lab, and more! Providing STEAM education and equipment for all ages, The Propeller is open to community members (similar to a gym membership) for $40/month. The rate for Ivy Tech students is only $15/month! However, even at a discounted rate, this might prove to be a barrier for students who could benefit from a membership to Propeller. I would like to propose using Circle of Ivy funds to sponsor an annual Propeller membership for 10 interested Ivy Tech students. Students would be required to submit a short essay explaining why they are interested in a Propeller membership and what they would use the space for. This could be a great way to allow Ivy Tech students to skill up, learn new equipment, network with other community members, and participate in workshops at a discounted membership rate!

Bridging The Gap From Theory To Practice In Our CNA Program - $6,025 To effectively bridge the gap between theory, simulation, and real-life practice in our Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program, we propose the acquisition of simulation manikins. These manikins will enable students to engage in realistic simulations that reinforce theoretical knowledge and build essential clinical skills, such as vital sign assessment and emergency response techniques. By integrating manikin-based training into our curriculum, students can gain confidence and proficiency in a safe environment before interacting with actual patients. This investment will not only improve training effectiveness for our CNAs but also ensure that our students are well-prepared to deliver care in real-world settings. Additionally, they make training more accessible and ultimately improve the quality of education and reduce costs associated with real-life errors.

Support for Nursing Student Success - $9,594 The Hamilton County Nursing Program 1st cohort has graduated and successfully completed the NCLEX at a 94% pass rate. Weare proud of this number and believe the support from the Circle of Ivy helped played a role in that success with granting ourprevious funding request. We would like to support the success of the next two cohorts of students on their preparation andNCLEX fees to achieve our goal of 100% pass rate.
The last hurdle for students to overcome to become a registered nurse is taking and passing the National Council LicensureExamination (NCLEX). If a student cannot pass the NCLEX-RN, they are precluded from entering their chosen career. Studentswill be able to schedule a testing appointment 30 days after their request to test and are encouraged to test withing two months ofgraduation.
The earliest students can take the exam is approximately 45 days after the graduation date. The NCLEX is a computer adaptivetest that measures competency with each question asked. Each new question is harder or easier based on the previous answers.
The Student Nursing Association (SNA) for Ham Co has put forth a proposal to remove the financial barrier for SNA members who will need to prepare to take the NCLEX. The removal of the burden of having to pay for an NCLEX prep system will increase their chances of passing the NCLEX ($169 for 180-day access) and the NCLEX registration fee of $200. Employee Sunshine Cart - $2,820 A "sunshine cart" serves as a mobile unit filled with thoughtful items designed to uplift spirits and spread positivity. Commonly used in hospitals, schools, or workplaces, the cart distributes treats, small gifts, and wellness items that help reduce stress, boost morale, and foster a sense of community. By offering small acts of kindness, the sunshine cart can improve mood and contribute to a more supportive, productive environment. To further enhance its impact, we propose rotating the sunshine cart between two different departments every month for a year. This personalized approach ensures that a wide range of staff or recipients experience the benefits, creating anticipation and excitement as it moves from one department to another. The cart can be tailored to reflect the needs and preferences of each department, making the experience even more meaningful. When budgeting for this initiative, it’s important to account for the cart, supplies, and any additional customization or decorative elements that align with each department’s theme or occasion. Monthly Mindful Meets - $1,000 In today’s fast-paced academic environment, mental health challenges among students are increasingly prevalent. To address this critical issue, we propose the establishment of "Monthly Mindful Meets," a support group aimed at fostering a supportive community and promoting mental well-being among our students.
The primary goals of this group are to build community among students, reduce feelings of isolation and stress; improve mental health by offering tools and strategies for managing anxiety; cope with stress, and promote mindfulness practices, including meditation, deep breathing, and reflective exercises.
"Monthly Mindful Meets" will take place on the first Thursday of each month and will be facilitated by staff and/or a mental healthprofessional. Sessions will incorporate guided mindfulness exercises, group discussions, and resources for ongoing support. Tomaximize participation, we will promote the group through campus flyers, school social media, and campus classroomannouncements.
We expect this initiative to improve participants’ mental health, increase student engagement, and strengthen the sense of community on campus. By prioritizing mental wellness, we can empower students to thrive both academically and personally and recognize their resilience. In summary, the "Monthly Mindful Meets" support group will provide essential resources and a welcoming atmosphere for students, fostering resilience and connection within our community.

Brain Bites - $1,500 To support the well-being and academic success of our community college students, we propose the implementation of a "Brain Bites" healthy snack initiative in each office across campus. These nutritious snacks will provide students with quick energy boosts, enhance concentration, and promote healthier eating habits. The primary objectives of this initiative are to encourage students to choose nutritious snacks over less healthy options, provide brain-boosting snacks to help maintain energy levels during study sessions and office visits, and foster a supportive environment that prioritizes health and wellness. To implement this initiative, we will curate a selection of healthy snacks, such as mixed nuts, granola bars, dried fruit, and yogurt cups, and place them in designated areas within each office for easy access. An awareness campaign will be launched to promote the initiative through posters,
social media, and during student orientation, raising awareness and encouraging participation. The budget will cover the initial investment for snack procurement, with ongoing funding potentially sourced through sponsorships, student activity fees, or partnerships with local health food vendors. We expect the "Brain Bites" initiative to lead to increased student satisfaction and engagement,
improved concentration and academic performance, and an enhanced campus culture focused on health and wellness. By implementing this program, we can create a supportive and healthy environment.

Ivy Cares Holiday Programming - $3,000 As the holiday season approaches, Ivy Cares aims to foster community spirit and support for
families in need through two key initiatives: the Angel Tree program and Heartfelt Harvest
(Thanksgiving outreach). This proposal outlines our objectives, target population, programming
details, and anticipated impact to ensure a successful and meaningful holiday season for all
involved. Our primary objectives are to support needy families by providing gifts and essential
items to children and families facing economic hardships during the holiday season, promote
community engagement through various outreach activities, and enhance food security by ensuring families have access to nutritious meals during Thanksgiving. The target population for the Angel Tree program will include children and families from low-income households in our service area. At the same time, our Thanksgiving outreach will focus on families identified through our wrap-around
services program. We anticipate a significant impact from these initiatives, aiming to provide gifts for over 90 children through the Angel Tree program and distribute meal kits to 50 families, ensuring they have a nourishing Thanksgiving. Furthermore, we aim to strengthen community bonds by fostering a spirit of giving and connection among community members through active participation in both programs. Modernizing Writing Center Furniture with Power Access during Tutoring - $4,964.62
Our Writing Center provides free tutoring support to students on written assignments across all subjects and at all points of the writing process. During the 2023-2024 academic year, the Writing Center facilitated 1,937 tutoring sessions with 934 unique students, and we’re on track to exceed those numbers in 2024-2025.
The percentage of students seeking tutoring in-person increased from 45% in the 2022-2023 academic year to 63% in 2023-2024. A majority of students utilizing in-person Writing Center services bring their own laptop; however, in Spring 2024, one of the current, outdated tutoring tables short-circuited when a student plugged in their laptop, resulting in physical sparks and smoke and rendering the table’s vital power source inaccessible. The Writing Center space must have reliable access to power for students and tutors to keep devices charged and functional during tutoring sessions.
Because our work is so collaborative and conversation-based, we’d like to purchase powered circular tables that are conducive to the social process of writing. A student working in the Writing Center recently shared how much they appreciated the circular tables in the Math & Science Resource Center, saying, “The circular tables–to me it seemed inviting.” Updating and modernizing the Writing Center’s furniture will elevate the welcoming and inclusive space that is vital to creating a supportive learning environment for student writers across the curriculum.

Academic Advising Appointment Kiosk - $1,485.58 Ivy Tech Indianapolis has a very busy Academic Advising front desk. Most days we have a line of students for the majority of the day, and the phone is ringing. We want all students to feel like they matter, and we want to be sensitive to their schedules and demands. We never want students to wait longer than they have to for their advising appointments. Right now, students often get stuck in a line waiting more than five minutes and sometimes up to 15, to check in for their advising appointment because our front desk staff are assisting other students. An Academic Advising Kiosk would allow all students with appointments to check in on their own. We would use a power automate form to alert advisors in Microsoft teams that their appointments have checked in. Two kiosk systems will ensure quick check in for our students and will allow students without an appointment to be attended to by our front desk staff with the focus and attention they deserve.

Writing in Harmony: Summer Retreat in New Harmony, Indiana - $2,322 We begin with English 202 Creative Writing, developing the techniques we use as writers. Then we retreat to New Harmony where an inspiring setting and reprieve from daily distractions—this turns our diverse class into a lasting community. The historic Indiana town was the site of two utopian attempts at communal living; a spirit of preservation and innovation has given New Harmony a lasting appeal to artists and thinkers of all sorts.
Students gather new experiences in the town—tours, artist workshops, historic research. They experiment with communal living in a residence hall where they establish rules, develop daily schedules, and plan group meals. Throughout the retreat, they work closely with their faculty and with one another. Without any faculty involvement, they maintain their community through texting and social media—months later they continue to recommend classes to one another, share new drafts, chat about their next jobs, next degree pathways. They even plan in-person meet-ups, camping adventures, and road trips.
New Harmony offers a popular tourist destination and hosts creative workshops and conferences throughout the year. Though students won’t leave the state, the remote location and minuscule population feels like a very different experience. It’s a small, walkable community that gives our students a safe and nurturing space where they can venture out of their comfort zones—it’s an incredibly affordable stepping stone to future travel experiences.

#Teach2Grow Service Learning English 111 Program - $1,517 #Teach2Grow is an service learning designated English 111 course that is offered by English faculty Carrie Sample and Renee Rule on the Indianapolis campus. The subject of the course is food insecurity and other umbrella topics. In addition to the regular course material, students spend time in the Ivy Tech garden, which is located at the eastern end of the CCCI building, growing and harvesting vegetables. The students are able to take home fresh, organically grown produce to feed their families, and the surplus harvest is donated to Ivy Cares Food Pantry. Starting in Fall 2024, students will be collaborating with the culinary department to begin growing herbs, microgreens, and lettuces in an indoor hydroponics set up. In the winter months, students begin growing the seeds that will later be planted outdoors. The course encourages the student to become more aware of the food insecurity issue in Marion County, to possibly become more civically engaged in this cause, and to be empowered with the tools to grow some of their own food should they desire. Students overwhelmingly support the vision of this class, reporting that they have improved their stress management and made new friends during the class sessions. This grant will purchase seed starting supplies, seeds, plants, produce containers, and other growing supplies.

Connecting with the Professional Community - $2,000 Ivy Tech's Therapeutic Massage Program seeks to connect its graduates with practicing professional massage therapists and holistic health practitioners. These connections serve current students to better understand the challenges and opportunities of the profession, provide recent graduates with a network of professional contacts, and acquaint practicing therapists with the massage therapy program at Ivy Tech Indianapolis. Guest speakers broaden our students' perspectives about the massage profession and inspire their success. Funds go to engage practicing LMTs as guest speakers for TMAS classes, provide tutoring for MBLex test preparation, and coach students for success as a massage therapist.
Guest speakers tutor current TMAS students and recent graduates in preparation for the MBLex exam and provide coaching for professional success after licensure. It is our hope that guest speakers go on to get involved as adjunct instructors based on their experiences working with our classes as well as mentors and professional points of contact for our graduates.

Bridging the Gap: Supporting Students’ Essential Expenses - $3,000 Andy enrolled at Ivy Tech to start a nursing career and was accepted into the nursing program. He secured funding through anAchieve Your Degree (AYD) partner, which will cover his tuition and some fees, leaving him responsible for purchasing scrubs andnursing materials. As an adult student, Andy is balancing full-time studies with financial independence and has taken out a studentloan to help cover expenses. However, he faces a challenge: the AYD partner's contingent funding prevents him from accessinghis loans until payment is received, leaving him with a financial gap.
To address this issue, Ivy+ Career Link is seeking funding to cover essential bookstore costs for students like Andy. They propose a $300 bookstore account that students can use at the start of the term, with the expectation that students will sign a promissory note to repay the amount at the end of the term. This initiative aims to provide a sustainable financial solution for AYD students, helping them meet their educational needs while ensuring they can focus on their studies without undue financial stress.

Visual Instruction for the particle decay, electrical and magnetic fields - $5,000 In Physics 102 and Physics 221 the students get introduced to concepts such as the electric field and the magnetic field. The electric filed and the magnetic field are difficult to visualize. Most of the time you do not see or feel them especially at a low magnitude.
This observation is also applicable for emitting particles from a source. How could you visualize those particles?
The objective for this monetary funding request is to help the students visualize these concepts with the help of scientific equipment. This equipment will be used strictly for instructional purposes in different physics courses and also as tools for show and tell.

Online B.E.S.T.: Building Empowerment and Success Through Incentives - $5,000 This fall 2024, the Division of Student Success launched an online student community to address the unique challenges faced byonline learners and understand retention difficulties. This community offers a supportive space for students to connect with peersand admin (Student Success Coaches), along with assignments designed to empower them academically and bridge knowledgegaps.
As the Indianapolis Online Student Community grows—now at 847 students—it is crucial to support our online learners byaddressing specific obstacles. This proposal requests $5,000 in funding, divided between the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 cohorts,to create an incentive program in Canvas that encourages participation and engagement.
A student feedback survey highlighted barriers such as disconnect from the broader campus. Many students self-advise withoutever meeting an advisor, which affects their progress. Additionally, students often lack awareness of available support services, including disability support, mental health counseling, tutoring, and guidance on degree audits and academic plans.
To enhance engagement, community admin created point-based assignments, including a virtual scavenger hunt for Ivy Tech resources. Tiered prizes will be awarded based on assignment completion, which may involve success coaching, attending workshops, meeting with advisors, and more. These assignments will be graded by CSS success coaches, promoting retention and enriching the educational experience.

Our Hub in Columbus has been gaining great traction with our students. But I want to grow what we offer and offer programs to assist with barrier-busting. I want to assist with the following:
• Offer baby supplies like diapers, bottles, and other needs. $300
• Bring back Hello Ivy to provide a free whole meal to students, with instructions on how to make the meal. $300
• Offer holiday meals to students for Thanksgiving and Christmas. These meal kits will include ham, vegetables, and a pie. $300
• Have available school supplies like notebooks and pencils, these go very fast in the Hub. $100
According to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, to reach transcendence, one must have their physiological needs met. Physiological needs are food, hygiene, and other basic needs. Many of our students struggle with meeting their basic needs as our Hub has been very utilized just in the Fall 2022 semester. Helping students meet these needs will help break down the greatest barrier a student has at Ivy Tech. I am also working with Amani to provide intentional coaching to ensure students who receive Ivy Cares assistance are retained and have a support team helping them through their educational journey. Students in the healthcare field are required to complete classes and clinical rotations in person. Currently, we have students traveling from their homes in Kokomo, Bloomington, Plainfield, Evansville, Crawfordsville, and Indianapolis. During the spring semester, the weather is a big challenge for these commuters. Often, our students from the more northern part of the state are forced to make decisions about driving that compromise their safety or force them to miss valuable class/clinic time. Many of our students cannot afford the extra cost of staying at a local hotel. If an emergency fund was available, it would allow faculty to provide some monetary support so students could better afford a hotel room to prevent driving in treacherous weather conditions.

The department of Ivy Cares hosts two annual holiday events. These two events eliminate student barriers that take place during major holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Our holiday programming/events align with goal 1 student success and goal 7 community. Goal 1.2 is to create a community of care. These events show the students that we care about the challenges and hardships they face during the holiday season. This also shows that we are not only informed but we would like to be a helping hand in a time of need. Goal 7.2 is to engage directly with each community's most pressing needs. During these events, we engage our staff members, community partners, and agencies so that they can firsthand see the need that we have. The first event is Thanks for Giving where we collect donations for a Thanksgiving basket. After donations are collected the department of Ivy Cares is tasked with collecting the items that we were unable to secure. Last year during this event we had 35 applications and we were able to assist 15 families a total of 51 people. After the donations were collected Ivy Cares then spent $800 on turkeys and other items, which we were unable to secure through donations. The angel tree event is designed to make sure that our students can provide holiday gifts for their families. Last year’s angel tree event had over 50 applications and we were able to accept 39 students and 80 angels. If we are selected, the money would be used to help fund these two events. The Breakthrough Ambassador Program is a pilot mentoring program targeted to first-year students. While the intent is for faculty, staff, and second-year students to serve as Breakthrough Ambassadors to create a sense of community and belonging for our first-year and at-risk populations, any interested student could participate. The structure would be monthly enrichment activities where success stories from our ambassadors are featured as well as helpful tools for the best learning experience (campus resources, time management, test-taking tips, etc.) The participants would also have the opportunity to benefit from a breakout session within their program of study, so they bond with program leaders, instructors, and fellow students outside of the classroom. We would also like to host a family event during the early part of the Spring semester so families can also feel involved in their student’s school.
This program is needed to connect the first-year and at-risk populations to our campus. Students who feel connected have higher success and retention rates.
Funds are needed for food, supplies, student and family event planning as well as shirts to identify the ambassadors at our functions and kick-off events throughout the year.

ASAP Goodwill Hunting - $1,000 Select Select 1 Vote 2 Votes 3 Votes 4 Votes 5 Votes 6 Votes
One of the goals for ASAP students is for them to be well-equipped for their next step after graduation. While activities are taking place in the classroom to help achieve this goal, there is nothing like real-world experience. I would like to be able to provide an opportunity for the ASAP students to attain a glimpse of a real-world experience.
I propose that each ASAP student would receive $35.00. With this budgeted amount, each student would work towards finding an outfit that would be suitable for an interview along with keeping in mind, they would have to purchase their lunch. The agenda would consist of the students traveling to Goodwill to purchase interview outfits, buy lunch, and then come together to discuss the day’s activities. This opportunity would be the catalyst for an open conversation focused on budgeting and preparing the student for future interviews along with equipping the students with an interview-ready outfit. All activities would take place under the guidance of mentors who would be available to assist the students. Students would also be asked to bring one article to donate to Goodwill. It is our goal to equip our students for the next step and providing them with this opportunity would not only help them to experience it with guidance but will also allow them to take part in helping their community.

This program is to increase place-based learning experiences for younger students in the STEM field of science.
Placed-based activities are a great learning modality and bringing this type of program to a local level would be beneficial. This program would bring a place-based learning experience for particularly younger students (grades 3-7) to a local city park. The goal is to develop a Junior Ranger Program at Lena’s Loop, which is a park in Batesville.
This Junior Ranger Program will include an educational booklet for Lena’s Loop. The development of this booklet is part of a Service-Learning Project for Earth Science classes at Batesville. The students are creating science education content including such topics as learning about city/state/National Parks, Leave No Trace principles, ecosystems, habitats, food webs, dichotomous keys, etc. Students will devise workbook content while hiking, observing nature, determining the impact they can have in nature, and the importance of preserving environmental spaces such as the park being studied.
While this is geared toward grades 3-7, any individual can participate in this program. Once any individual (regardless of age)completes this program, they would be eligible to receive a Junior Ranger Badge.
It is hopeful that the Batesville Parks & Recreation Department and Batesville School District will join this Place-Based Junior Ranger Program to make it a success.

The purpose of the Ivy Tech Service Learning Compost Trail is to utilize composting as a life skill that not only illustrates learning objectives across disciplines but also provides a sustainable means of recycling food waste and feeding the community. It was developed and implemented by BIOL101 service learning students in the Fall of 2017. It has made a significant community impact by bringing together various community members, including local restaurants, community gardeners, and Ivy Tech students, to fertilize the Southeast Indiana Community Gardens naturally. Last season we collected ~1500 gallons of compostable waste, and the Ivy Tech Service Learning plots in the community garden produced ~500 pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables for the campus and local community food pantries. To strengthen community engagement, we request funding for additional cart and compost buckets that will be provided to community members in collaboration with Lawrenceburg Main Street at the weekly Farmers Market. Buckets printed with composting information will be taken home by community members, filled with compostable items, and brought back to the Farmers Market to exchange for an empty bucket. Service learning students will provide composting education, add the compostable items to the compost pile at the community garden, and clean the buckets for the next week. To evaluate success, gallons of compostable waste will be tracked, and service-learning reflections will be assessed.

The Disability Support Services (DSS) program of Ivy Tech Fort Wayne and Warsaw (NE-Northeast) has created a sensory-friendly environment for our students. During Fall 2022, room 1630 opened to our students as a disability-friendly study space where our students can utilize assistive technologies, build relationships with each other, and receive support from DSS staff. Our students have identified a need for making room 1630 more sensory-friendly. This will enhance the environment of this space by altering the lighting and soundscape, enhancing visual stimulation, offering alternative seating options, and providing opportunities for sensorimotor stimulation, stress management, relationship building, and fostering a sense of belonging and community on campus.
DSS staff have identified a need to provide opportunities for relationship building and safe spaces for our students where they feel welcome and can access support.

Coffee with a Professor - $1,800 Select Select 1 Vote 2 Votes 3 Votes 4 Votes 5 Votes 6 Votes
Engagement with faculty outside of the traditional classroom setting is considered a predictor of student success in college. Coffee with a Professor is being created to encourage student-faculty and student-student interactions outside of the classroom–possibly discussing topics of academic interest, upcoming coursework, and general life experiences. As the name (Coffee with a professor) suggests, professors and students would meet in a casual setting to drink a café style beverage while having a conversation.
Getting to know a professor and fellow students may help students feel more at ease in the classroom, may give them more confidence when addressing their peers and professor, and may give them a deeper understanding of the course. Additionally, many of the theories used in studies of college student persistence and completion emphasize the importance of academic and social integration. Therefore, Coffee with a Professor strives to create connections that support academic and social integration while reinforcing the growth and holistic development of a student.

In 2021, 24% of families in Allen County reported "getting behind" in their bills due to the high costs of housing in the area. During the 21-22 academic year, students requested assistance with housing or utilities 102 times. Knowing that most of our students are just one high utility bill or rent payment away from homelessness, this fund will target those students and prevent a student from dropping out of college in order to work additional hours or pick up another job to maintain their housing.

The Helping Hands Fund assists students at Ivy Tech Community College through short-term financial emergencies so they can be in class, be prepared, and persist in their academic coursework. Students are eligible for a minimum of $50 and a maximum of $500. The previous allocations we have received from the Circle of Ivy have been beneficial in helping remove those barriers impacting our students. I have attached a testimonial from a recipient of the funds.
“As a student, life can get pretty hectic. Along with family, school, and work financial issues can pop up at any time. With helping hands, I was able to access things that I would not have been able to, without their help such as buying my book for the NCLEX exam.” – Jordan Walker, who is now a nurse working in a nursing home.
“The funds helped me keep my car running. This also helped me keep my job and stay on track with my goals.” – Tressie Blocher, she is still pursuing her education.
We received 113 applications and Helping Hands was used to pay $5,493 to remove barriers impacting students.

Working with a tutor can be a transformative experience for a college student. In fact, most university studies show that students who use tutoring services are more likely to get higher grades and graduate than those who do not. Tutors not only teach essential skills that students can use to succeed academically but give students the emotional support needed to tackle the rigors of college life. Here at Ivy Tech Hamilton County, we have an opportunity to create a tutoring center that not only serves our student body with the individualized academic support indicative of top universities across the country but also a space that is warm and welcoming to students.

Proposing a room for mothers who need to breast pump while on campus. We know we have a room, but it is not very comfortable. Students are choosing to go to their cars to pump instead. We are proposing the following to make pumping and storing breast milk on campus much easier and more comfortable:
A comfortable chair such as a leather rocker/recliner with a table to rest a breast pump on and nearby outlets to plug the pump into, a sink to wash hands and pump parts, and a refrigerator to store breastmilk while on campus.
If funding allows, a Medela symphony hospital-grade pump, which allows multiple users to bring their pump parts only rather than carrying a pump to campus each day.

Often students come to us from high school and need to be re-evaluated for Disability Services. The high school evaluation does not carry over. They go without because they may not have the funds to get the medical evaluation that is needed. In many cases, grades suffer, not because they cannot do the work, but because they have a documented different ability that requires extra time and resources. We would like to see us help these students to move forward with their education and to remove barriers to their academic success.

Advising Technology - $4,600 Select 1 Vote 2 Votes 3 Votes 4 Votes 5 Votes 6 Votes
To aid in the student experience, advising has taken back the task of helping student register for classes but we are sorely needing the technology and equipment to make it both efficient and FERPA compliant. I humbly request the assistance of the Circle of Ivy to aid the Academic Advising Office with funds to go towards technology to help streamline in-office registration.
If awarded, we envision advising sessions no longer having awkward pauses as advisors attempt to figure out how to register the student and navigate systems. Students will be able to sign in securely using these mobile devices to register and access their student information. Advisors will not have to utilize our work computers to register students, it reduces paperwork/DocuSigns and student traffic to the EEC and the Registrar.
This also allows advising to be more mobile and intentional. Advisors can take a mobile device and meet students in the commons or right outside classrooms. We can participate in registration fairs, and also help students apply for loaner laptops and emergency services. Or Advisors can even go to a local High School and work with students who have made the commitment to attend Ivy Tech. For Ivy Tech as a whole, we can help with application/appointment to registration conversion. The impact can be monumental but your support is needed.

Community Engagement: Adult Education and Literacy Programs - $10,000 Select 1 Vote 2 Votes 3 Votes 4 Votes 5 Votes 6 Votes
Through Ivy+ Career Link, the Adult Education and English Literacy Programs are offered to the community as free open entry/ open exit programs designed to assess and academically challenge adult students who would like to learn English as a second language or acquire the core skills needed to earn a High School Equivalency diploma. Our instructors provide 45 hours of Adult Education and English Literacy programming each week in Princeton, Rockport, and at three Evansville locations. Most importantly, the adult education and literacy programs demonstrate an understanding of the community and align services to not only meet educational goals but reduce barriers by developing partnerships and support networks that increase student success and the workforce’s talent pipeline. Continued funding through the Circle of Ivy will provide the finances necessary to serve students and the community in a greater program capacity. Additional funds will again be allocated to pay for exams and bus passes, establish new program locations (e.g. YMCA), and purchase digital textbooks for distance learning due to Covid challenges. Due to the community need for adult education and literacy programs, our campuses’ accelerated growth has exceeded the allotted grant funding for the FY within 2 quarters; a continued partnership with the Circle of Ivy for program funding will again be an immediate benefit to the adult education and literacy community at Ivy Tech Community College.
